Ginger essential oil is produced by steam-distilling the rhizome of Zingiber officinale. What comes over in the steam is the volatile fraction — overwhelmingly sesquiterpenes.
The published compositional standard (ISO 16928:2014) puts the main constituents at:

The thing the category doesn't tell you
Gingerols and shogaols — the compounds most people associate with ginger's activity — are non-volatile. They do not carry over in steam distillation; they remain in the oleoresin. So a steam-distilled ginger essential oil contains negligible gingerol, ours included. Any brand advertising a gingerol percentage on an essential oil should be asked for its GC/MS report. We would rather be the brand that explains this than the one that hopes you don't ask.
The strongest body of evidence concerns oral ginger. A 2015 systematic review and meta-analysis pooled five randomised placebo-controlled trials covering 593 participants with osteoarthritis. Ginger produced a statistically significant reduction in pain versus placebo (standardised mean difference −0.30; 95% CI −0.50 to −0.09; P = 0.005) and an improvement in disability scores (SMD −0.22; 95% CI −0.39 to −0.04; P = 0.01).
The authors graded this evidence as moderate quality, noting small participant numbers. They also found participants taking ginger were more than twice as likely to stop treatment as those on placebo — driven by bad taste and stomach upset, not by serious adverse events.

Ginger applied to the skin as a compress or patch has been studied for osteoarthritis symptoms, with participants reporting improved comfort and mobility. This work is genuinely early — small samples, limited replication — and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Reviews of ginger essential oil report dose-dependent anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity in laboratory and animal models, plus antioxidant and antimicrobial effects. Laboratory and animal findings are a reason for interest, not a substitute for human trials.

The oral evidence for ginger is real but modest. The topical evidence is promising but thin. Ginext is a carefully made, independently tested ginger essential oil for topical use — it is not a medicine, and it is not a substitute for treatment your doctor has prescribed.
If a company tells you a 15 ml bottle of essential oil is clinically proven to fix your joints, they are ahead of the science. We would rather sell you a good product honestly described.
